Curtis "Curt" Connors is a S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist. After Spider-Man was recruited into the agency, Connors quickly befriended the young superhero, who views him as trustworthy friend and colleague. When the Green Goblin attacked the Helicarrier, Connors's right arm was crushed by falling debris, forcing him to have it amputated. While investigating Doctor Octopus's various animal DNA formulas, Connors realized the potential medical benefits they could provide to the world, and injected himself with lizard DNA in hopes of restoring his right arm. Despite his arm being successfully regrown, the serum caused Connors to transform into reptilian humanoid monster known as the "Lizard".
