The Thunderbolts were a team formed by Taskmaster to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Helicarrier and break out the Green Goblin, the former's employer.

- In the mainstream comics, the Thunderbolts are initially a group of villains created by Baron Helmut Zemo, consisting of Beetle, Fixer, Goliath, Meteorite, and Screaming Mimi, after various superheroes, including the Avengers, were seemingly killed by Onslaught. Zemo and his Thunderbolts assumed new identities as superheroes to amass political power over the world once they gained the public's trust. Eventually, the other members betrayed Zemo (except for Fixer) and reformed themselves to become a true team of superheroes.
